I visited New York for the first time almost 20 years ago, and I’ll
never forget the feeling as I climbed up from the subway to the streets of Manhattan. The vibe of the city just totally got me. Since then it’s been my dream to be able to live and work in New York.

I started the visa process - which turned out to be very interesting, complex and educational - more than three years ago and finally in the beginning of 2020 I moved in. Just in time for the pandemic to start. After a few intense weeks I went back to Finland for much longer than expected. I was in shock as all work suddenly vanished and the short time in New York also left me in a turmoil of excitement and anxiety. It’s not an easy city to get by in.

But I returned and little by little as the world is opening up, my inner peace is taking root and I find myself more relaxed and at home in New York. There’s still a million things to be learned and many obstacles to overcome, but I feel more confident about times ahead.

Thank You Laivaston soittokunta - Flottans musikkår - The Navy Band for this wonderful opportunity to celebrate my other home with music and film. And of course always a pleasure to visit Turku and it was a blast singing the choir for Think sang by lovely Iina Mutikainen aka Aina!
